10 Games Like Crossy Road — Free Hop-and-Dodge Games Online

Crossy Road launched in November 2014 on iOS — Hipster Whale’s voxel-art reimagining of Frogger. It had been downloaded 200 million times by 2018. The hook is the same as 1981 Frogger but with infinite distance: cross roads, rivers, train tracks; don’t get hit; keep going forever. Here are 10 free browser games with the same dodge-and-hop DNA — none of them need an install.

1. Frogger

The original 1981 Konami arcade game. Cross the road. Cross the river by hopping on logs and turtles (which can dive). Reach the home slots at the top. Five lives. Our build has the proper diving-turtle mechanic Play Frogger.

2. Doodle Jump

Different axis (vertical instead of horizontal) but the same infinite-progression dodge loop. Bounce up, avoid monsters, grab jetpacks Play Doodle Jump.

3. Helix Jump

Drop a ball down a rotating tower. Avoid red sections. Combo to smash through tougher obstacles Play Helix Jump.

4. Snake

The infinite-grow loop. Don’t hit yourself. Don’t hit walls. Pure muscle memory once you’ve played 20 minutes Play Snake.

5. Flappy Bird

One-input infinite obstacle course. Same “how long can you survive” loop Play Flappy Bird.

6. Pac-Man

Maze navigation with four hostile pursuers. Same “dodge the things that kill you” instinct Play Pac-Man.

7. Space Invaders

Aliens come down; you dodge their bullets and shoot back. Infinite-difficulty as you clear levels Play Space Invaders.

8. Centipede

Atari 1980. Descending centipede splits when shot; mushrooms scatter the playfield; spiders and fleas appear. Pure arcade chaos Play Centipede.

9. Galaga

Formations of enemies dive at you. Dodge their dives, fire upward. Score double during dive attacks Play Galaga.

10. Color Switch

Tap to jump through rotating coloured rings. Pure pattern-recognition dodge game Play Color Switch.

Why did Crossy Road work when so many Frogger clones failed?

Two design choices. Infinite distance (Frogger had levels; Crossy Road has no end), and character unlocks (you unlock 150+ chickens, ducks, dinosaurs through coin collection — pure variable-reward dopamine). Pure mechanical cloning of Frogger had been done a hundred times. Hipster Whale changed the meta-game.

Is the original Crossy Road still playable?

Yes — still on the iOS and Android app stores, free with optional cosmetic purchases. Our games here are HTML5 alternatives that don’t require an app install. Better for anyone playing on a desktop or Chromebook.
