Tightrope Game is a side-view balance game where you guide a cartoon acrobat along a high wire from one tower to the next, holding a long balancing pole. The walker sways like a real balancing act, so every crossing is a steady stream of small corrections against the wind, a swinging rope and the occasional bird. You can play this tightrope game online free in your browser with no download, on a keyboard, a mouse or a phone’s touch screen.
How to play
The lean meter at the top of the game shows how far the walker is tipping. Keep the needle in the green.
- Balance: the walker always tips a little further the way they are already leaning. Press Left or A to lean left and Right or D to lean right, and bring the needle back toward the middle. On a phone or with a mouse, hold the left or right half of the game, or use the Lean buttons under it.
- Walk: hold Up, W, Space or the Walk button to move along the rope. You can stop at any time to steady yourself.
- Watch the wind: gusts push you sideways. The flags, the windsock and the blowing leaves show the wind’s direction, and a GUST arrow flashes just before a new one arrives.
- Mind the birds: in some levels a bird flies in and lands on one end of your pole for a few seconds. That side gets heavier, so lean the other way until it flies off.
- Falling is safe: if you lean past the red zone, the walker drops into the safety net, bounces and you can retry the level right away.
Levels, stars and endless mode
There are 12 levels across three venues. The first four take place under a circus tent, the next four cross a canyon and the last four stretch between city rooftops. Levels get longer and add new challenges: wind gusts from level 2, birds from level 3, a steady crosswind in some canyon and rooftop levels, and a swinging rope from level 6 that rocks you on a regular rhythm.
Finishing a level unlocks the next one and earns up to three stars:
- One star for reaching the far tower.
- One star for finishing within the par time shown in the corner of the game.
- One star for keeping your wobbles at or below the level’s limit. A wobble is counted every time the needle swings into the red part of the meter.
Endless mode puts you on a rope with no far tower. The wind grows stronger the further you go, birds start landing after 40 m and the rope begins to swing after 100 m. Your best distance for each difficulty is saved in your browser, along with your stars.
Difficulty settings
- Easy: the walker moves forward by themselves, the wind is gentler and you can lean further before you fall. You only need to balance.
- Normal: you hold Walk to move and balance at the same time.
- Hard: walking turns into a rhythm game. Tap Step once for each step, in time with the beat ring under the walker. A step on the green beat is smooth; a step off the beat jolts you toward the side you are already leaning.
Tips
- Correct early. Small taps when the needle first leaves the middle are much easier than big saves near the red zone.
- Don’t over-correct. Let go of the lean key as the needle heads back to the center, or you will swing straight past it to the other side.
- Stop for gusts. When GUST flashes, it can help to stand still, lean into the wind as it arrives and walk again once it passes.
FAQ
Is Tightrope Game free?
Yes. It is free to play with no account and nothing to install. Pick a level from the menu, or press Space or Enter to start the next level you have not finished yet.
Does it work on phones and Chromebooks?
Yes. On a phone or tablet, use the Lean and Walk buttons or hold either half of the game to lean. The game area won’t scroll the page while you play. On a Chromebook or laptop, use the arrow keys or WASD in any modern browser.
What happens when I fall?
The walker lands in the safety net and bounces. In a level you can retry from the start straight away; in endless mode the run ends and your distance is compared with your best.
Can I pause the game?
Press P or Esc, or use the Pause button. It also pauses when you switch tabs.
