Three Legged Race is a field day pack of three classic races: the three-legged race, the sack race and the egg and spoon race. You race three CPU dino teams on a sunny school field, and each race tests timing, not button mashing. How these races work at a real field day

• Three-legged race: two runners stand side by side, and their inside legs are tied together at the ankle with a scarf or a soft band. The tied legs move as one “middle” leg, so partners step together, often counting “middle, outside.” Pairs that rush usually topple over, get up and keep going.
• Sack race: each racer stands inside a sack, often an old burlap sack, holds the top up around the waist and hops to the finish line. Steady hops usually beat wild jumps, and if you fall you get up and carry on.
• Egg and spoon race: each racer carries an egg balanced on a spoon. If the egg falls, you put it back on the spoon and continue. You usually may not hold it in place with your other hand.

How to play the online game

You race in the bottom lane, marked YOU. The panel at the top of the field shows what to watch for.

• Three-legged race: you and your partner Ziggy are tied at the ankle. Beats slide along the bar toward the circle, marked IN for the tied leg and OUT for the outside leg. Press the matching leg as each beat reaches the circle: Left or A (or the IN button) for IN, and Right or D (or the OUT button) for OUT. On a phone you can also tap the left or right half of the field. A step right on the beat is Perfect and goes a little farther, and every step in sync makes Ziggy speed up. Press the wrong leg, or press before the beat, and you both stumble, sit down for a moment and get back up. Missing a beat just resets your combo.
• Sack race: press Hop (Space, Up, W, the Hop button or a tap on the field) to jump. The timing bar shows each hop from takeoff to landing. Press in the green zone, just before or after you land, and the next hop is longer, building a chain of up to six. Wait too long and you start over with a small hop. Pressing in the red zone, while still high in the air, tips you over.
• Egg and spoon race: hold Walk (Space, Up, W, the Walk button or the middle of the field) to move. Use Tilt L and Tilt R (Left or A and Right or D, or hold the sides of the field) to keep the egg marker in the green middle of the balance bar. Walking faster makes the egg wobble much more. If it slides off the end of the bar, the egg drops and you stop to pick it up.

Ribbons and field day mode

Each race gives a ribbon for your place: gold for 1st, silver for 2nd, bronze for 3rd and Good try for 4th. Field day mode runs all three races and scores 3, 2, 1 or 0 points per race. A total of 7 or more points earns the gold field day ribbon, 4 or more silver and 2 or more bronze. You can also play any race on its own. Your best times, best field day score and ribbon count are saved in your browser.

Tips

• Listen to the beat. With sound on, a soft tick plays on every beat in the three-legged race. Press with the tick, not ahead of it. Rushing is worse than being late, and one stumble costs more than a second.
• Press on the landing. In the sack race, watch the marker cross into the green zone and press as the dino touches down.
• Do not run with the egg. Hold Walk in bursts. At top speed the egg wobbles faster than you can correct it, so ease off when the marker leaves the green.

Press P or Esc, or use the Pause button. The race also pauses if you switch tabs.
