Dress Up is a free paper-doll studio where you style your own character from head to toe. Choose a body build and skin tone, then mix and match 117 pieces: 13 hairstyles, 6 faces, 14 tops, 12 bottoms, 10 dresses and suits, 10 coats, 12 pairs of shoes, 12 hats, 7 pairs of glasses, 7 neck pieces and 14 things to hold. Every piece can be recolored, and 11 scenes put your character in a park, on a beach, in the city, in outer space, at a dinosaur museum and more. If you have been looking for dress up games that run right in your browser with no download or sign-up, this one works on a computer, tablet, Chromebook or phone.
How to play
The studio has two parts: your character on the left (or on top, on a phone) and the item drawer next to it.
- Pick a tab. The tabs are Body, Face, Hair, Tops, Bottoms, Dresses, Coats, Shoes, Hats, Glasses, Neck, Hold and Scene. Tap an item to put it on, or tap None to take it off.
- Recolor it. While a piece is on, tap any of the 30 colors under the drawer to change it. Hair, eye color and the scene can be recolored too.
- Change the character. The Body tab has three builds (Slim, Medium and Round) and eight skin tones. Every outfit piece resizes to fit whichever build you choose.
- Tap the character. Tapping a piece your character is wearing jumps straight to that tab, which is handy when you want to recolor something quickly.
- Random, Undo and Reset. Random builds a surprise outfit, Undo steps back one change at a time, and Reset puts the starter outfit back on while keeping your build and skin tone.
Pieces layer the way real clothes do. Pant hems sit over shoes and boots, coats sit over tops, hats sit over hair and hoods hang behind the head. A dress or suit takes the place of a top and bottoms, so picking one takes those off, and picking a top or bottoms takes the dress off again.
Theme challenges
Press Challenges to try 10 themed looks: a rainy day, a day at the beach, space explorer, a dino museum field trip, a snow day, a birthday party, a royal ball, sports day, a weekend in the city and a cozy movie night. Dress your character, then press Check my look.
- Each on-theme item is worth 22 points, and up to four of them count.
- A scene that fits the theme adds 12 points, so four good items plus the right scene make a perfect 100.
- Some themes have clashes. Flip-flops on a snow day or a jersey at a royal ball cost 20 points each.
- 90 points or more earns three stars, 60 earns two and 30 earns one. Your best stars for each challenge are saved.
Tips
- Start with the scene. Picking the background first makes it easier to choose colors that stand out against it.
- Read the hint. If a challenge look falls short, the results panel shows which items counted, which clashed and a hint about what to add.
- Use every slot. Hats, glasses, neck pieces and held items all count in challenges, so an umbrella or a fossil bone can be the piece that earns the third star.
- Try Random for ideas. It often lands on combinations you would not have picked, and Undo brings back your last look if you do not like it.
- Save as you go. Save look keeps up to 24 outfits in your gallery, so you can try something new without losing a favorite.
