Elephant Game is a top-down savanna adventure with a memory twist. You play the matriarch, the older female who leads an elephant family, and you guide your herd of two aunts and a young calf across the dry season to a green refuge in the east. Each season opens with a short look at the land in the wet season, then dust settles and hides the waterholes and fruit trees. You have to remember where they were. Play Elephant Game free online in your browser with no download, on a keyboard, mouse or touch screen.
How to play
- Study the wet season: the whole map appears with blue waterholes, trees heavy with orange fruit, rivers and thorn scrub. Tap the game or press Space when you are ready. Bigger maps give you a little more time.
- Walk the dry season: the waterholes are now covered in dust and look like plain ground, and every tree is bare. Move with the arrow keys or WASD, or hold and drag on the savanna so the matriarch walks toward your finger or pointer.
- Find the water: when the herd gets close to a spot you remembered, the waterhole appears. Stand in it to drink. Drinking refills the Water meter and fills your trunk with up to three sprays.
- Reach the refuge: the green marsh along the east edge of the map is always visible. Walk into it to finish the season.
Water, the calf and the trunk
Water drains steadily while the herd walks. The Calf meter is the calf’s energy: if it reaches zero, the calf is too tired to go on and you try the season again.
- Trunk spray: press Space or the Spray calf button to shower the calf with water from your trunk. Each spray gives the calf energy and keeps it cool for a few seconds. Your trunk holds three sprays and refills at any waterhole.
- Fruit trees: walk up to a tree you remember as a fruit tree and the herd eats, giving the calf a big boost and a little water. Each tree feeds the family once.
- Running dry: when the Water meter is empty, the calf loses energy much faster. Head for the nearest waterhole you remember.
- Thorn scrub: the dark spiky bushes block the way, and walking into them scratches the calf and costs energy.
- Dry riverbeds: the cracked brown channels can be crossed, but the herd walks at half speed there and the heat tires the calf faster.
Seasons, stars and recall
There are ten seasons. Each one is a bigger map with more waterholes to remember, more thorn scrub and more dry riverbeds to cross. Every season can earn three stars: one for reaching the refuge, one for finishing within the par time shown above the game, and one for arriving with the calf at 50 percent energy or more. Clearing a season unlocks the next, and stars and best times are saved in your browser.
If you lose your way, press R or the Recall button to look at the wet-season map again. The map shows where the herd is now, but you only get one recall per season, and the family stands still while you look, so the clock keeps running and the water keeps draining.
Tips
- Remember a route, not every spot. During the preview, pick a chain of waterholes from west to east and note the trees, thorn patches and riverbed bends next to each one. Those landmarks stay visible.
- Drink before you need it. A full trunk is three boosts for the calf, so top up at each waterhole you pass.
- Spray early in hot stretches. The cooling lasts a few seconds, so spray just before you step into a long riverbed crossing.
FAQ
Is Elephant Game free?
Yes. It is free to play with no account and nothing to install. Pick a season and press Play.
Does it work on phones and Chromebooks?
Yes. On a phone or tablet, hold and drag on the map to walk and tap Spray calf to cool the calf. On a Chromebook or laptop, use the arrow keys or WASD.
Can I pause?
Press P or Esc, or use the Pause button. The game also pauses when you switch tabs.
Are the elephant facts real?
The game keeps them simple. Elephant families are led by an older female, the matriarch, and other females help look after the calves. The trunk is the nose and upper lip joined together, and elephants use it to drink, grab food and spray water or dust on their skin to keep cool.
