This division game gives kids three ways to practice, all with a dinosaur theme. Share eggs and cookies into equal groups to see what division means. Race a running dino through the gate with the right answer to build fast fact recall. Then work through long division one step at a time. It’s free to play in your browser with no download or sign-up, and it works on a computer, tablet, Chromebook or phone.
How to play
Share it out
- Each problem asks you to share a number of eggs or cookies among 2 to 6 dinos, such as 14 eggs among 4 dinos.
- Drag eggs from the basket into the nests. You can also tap a nest to drop one egg in, tap an egg in the basket to give it to the emptiest nest, or press Deal 1 each to give every dino one more.
- Press Check. If the nests aren’t equal, the smaller ones turn red. If every dino could still get another egg, the game tells you to keep sharing.
- When the sharing is fair, pick the answer: how many each dino got. Anything left in the basket is the remainder, so 14 shared by 4 is 3 each with 2 left over, written 14 ÷ 4 = 3 r 2.
Facts race
- A division fact appears at the top, such as 56 ÷ 7. Three gates come toward the dino, one in each lane, each showing a number.
- Switch lanes so the dino runs through the gate with the right answer. Use the arrow keys or W and S, press 1, 2 or 3, tap the answer buttons under the track, or tap or swipe on the track.
- Each right answer adds to your streak, and the dino runs faster the longer your streak lasts. A wrong gate costs one of your 3 hearts and shows the matching multiplication fact.
- A race is 20 questions. Choose facts up to 12 × 12 or divisors 1 to 10 only.
Long division
- Choose 2-digit, 3-digit or 4-digit numbers. The divisor is always a single digit from 2 to 9.
- The helper walks you through the four steps in order: Divide, Multiply, Subtract and Bring down. The current step lights up, and you type each answer with the keypad or your keyboard.
- Every step is checked. A wrong try shows a hint, and after three wrong tries the helper tells you the answer so you can keep going.
- At the end you see the quotient and remainder, plus a check that multiplies back.
Stars, review and saved progress
Every division fact you answer in the race, and every sharing problem with no remainder, counts toward the mastery map. A fact is learned once you get it right twice in a row. Learn 4 facts for a divisor to earn its first star, 8 for the second and 10 for the third. Tap any divisor on the map to race on that table only.
Facts you miss go on a review list. The race picks them more often, and the Review missed facts button runs a race made only of them. Get a fact right twice and it leaves the list. Stars, the review list and your best score are saved in your browser.
Tips for learning division
- Think of the times table backward. Every division fact has a multiplication partner. If you know 7 × 8 = 56, you know 56 ÷ 7 = 8.
- Deal, don’t guess. Deal 1 each shares the way you deal cards: one for each dino until there aren’t enough to go around.
- The remainder is always smaller than the divisor. If the leftovers are as many as the dinos, everyone can get another one.
- Say the steps out loud. Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring down. Repeat until there are no digits left to bring down.
FAQ
Is this division game free?
Yes. It’s completely free, with no account, no download and nothing to install.
What grade is it for?
It’s aimed at grades 3 to 5. Share it out suits kids meeting division for the first time, the facts race covers the facts usually learned in grades 3 and 4, and the long division helper fits grades 4 and 5.
Does it teach remainders?
Yes. About half of the sharing problems have leftovers, and the game shows them as the remainder. Long division problems can also end with a remainder.
Can I practice only one times table?
Yes. Tap that divisor on the mastery map, for example ÷6, and the race uses only facts that divide by 6.
