Camping Game

Camping Game is a cozy campsite puzzle you can play free in your browser, with no download or sign-up. Your job is to pitch a tent beside every tree using pure logic, in the style of the classic Tents and Trees grid puzzle. When the campsite is set, head to the campfire, stack a log teepee and toast marshmallows to a perfect golden brown.

How to play the tent puzzles

Each puzzle is a square field of grass dotted with trees. Numbers along the top tell you how many tents go in each column, and numbers down the left side tell you how many go in each row. Place tents so that all of these rules hold:

• One tent per tree. Every tree gets exactly one tent directly beside it: above, below, left or right. Diagonal doesn’t count.
• Tents never touch. No two tents can be next to each other in any direction, diagonals included.
• The counts must match. Every row and column holds exactly the number of tents shown.

Tap or click a cell once to place a tent, tap it again to mark it as grass (a cell you know is empty), and tap a third time to clear it. Drag from a cell to paint grass across several cells at once. A count turns green when its row or column has the right number of tents and red when it has too many. Tents that touch, or that have no tree beside them, turn red as well.

There are 40 puzzles in four sizes: 6×6 (Easy), 8×8 (Medium), 10×10 (Hard) and 12×12 (Expert). Every puzzle has exactly one solution, so you never need to guess. A timer runs while you solve. Finish under par for three stars, within twice par for two, or slower for one. Your stars, best times and any half-finished boards are saved in your browser, so you can close the tab and pick up where you left off.

The Daily tab gives you a fresh 8×8 puzzle every day. It is built from the date, so everyone gets the same campsite on the same day.

The campfire

Open the Campfire tab for a short break between puzzles. First, drag five logs from the ground onto the glowing outline to build a teepee. Drop a log anywhere else and it tumbles back to the grass. Once the last log is in, the fire catches.

Then toast five marshmallows. Hold the mouse button, your finger or the Space bar to hold the stick over the flames, and watch the meter at the top. Let go while the needle is in the golden zone for 3 points. Lightly toasted or a bit dark earns 1 point, raw earns nothing, and if you hold on too long the marshmallow catches fire. Each one toasts at a slightly different speed. The best score out of 15 is saved.

Tips for solving

• Start with the zeros. A row or column with a 0 can be filled with grass straight away. Auto-grass does this for you, and also marks every cell that is not beside a tree, every cell touching a tent, and the rest of any row or column that is already full.
• Look for lonely trees. A tree with only one open cell beside it must have its tent there.
• Mark around every tent. As soon as you place a tent, the eight cells around it can’t hold another one. Marking them as grass often reveals the next move.
• Count the gaps. If a row needs two tents and only has room for two that don’t touch, both spots are forced.

Controls

On a keyboard, arrow keys move the cursor, Space cycles a cell, T places a tent, G marks grass, X clears, Z undoes and A runs auto-grass. P or Esc pauses, and the game also pauses when you switch tabs. Cricket sounds are generated live in your browser; the Sound button turns them off.
