Tag Game

Tag Game turns the playground classic into a fast side-view platformer. One dino is IT and chases the rest. Touch another dino and IT passes to them. Play Tag Game online free in your browser, with no download or sign-up, against 1 to 3 AI dinos or against a friend on the same keyboard or phone.

How to play

Every round starts with a short countdown and a random dino picked to be IT. The IT dino has a red glow and an IT badge over its head.

• Tag: if you are IT, touch any other dino to pass IT on. The newly tagged dino cannot tag anyone for 1 second, so there are no instant tag-backs. A small “no tag-backs” timer at the top shows when tagging is live again.
• Round timer: choose 60, 90 or 120 seconds. The scoreboard at the top tracks how long each dino has spent as IT.
• Who loses: by default the dino with the most total IT time loses the round. Switch the Loser setting to “IT at buzzer” if you want the classic rule, where whoever is IT when time runs out loses. Everyone else is ranked by least IT time.

The arenas

There are six arenas: Meadow, Ladder Yard, Portal Caves, Bounce Park, Tower and Sky Steps. Each one mixes the same pieces in a different layout:

• Wooden platforms are one-way: jump up through them from below, and press down to drop back through.
• Crates are solid. You can stand on them, but you have to jump over them.
• Ladders let you climb up or down between levels. Hold up to climb and down to go back down.
• Jump pads are the yellow springs. Step on one and it throws you high into the air.
• Portals come in matching colored pairs. Walk into one and you pop out of its twin on the other side of the arena.

Power-ups

A power-up appears every few seconds at one of the arena’s spawn spots, with at most two on the field at once.

• S (speed): run about 45 percent faster for 6 seconds.
• 2J (double jump): jump a second time in midair for 10 seconds.
• Z (freeze ray): one shot of a cartoon freeze ray. Fire it in the direction you are facing, and the first dino it hits is frozen in place for 1.4 seconds. A frozen IT dino cannot tag, and a frozen runner is an easy target.

Controls

Solo: A and D or the arrow keys to move, W or Up to jump and climb, S or Down to drop, and Space or E to zap. In 2 player mode, player 1 uses W A S D with E to zap, and player 2 uses the arrow keys with Enter or / to zap. Both players can press keys at the same time. On a phone or tablet, use the buttons under the arena. In 2 player mode each player gets their own set, P1 on the left and P2 on the right. P or Esc pauses, and the game also pauses if you switch tabs.

Tips

• Use the cooldown. Right after you pass IT on, you have 1 second where you cannot be tagged back. Use it to get clear, ideally through a portal or up a ladder.
• Break line of chase. Dropping through a platform is faster than walking off its edge, and it often leaves the chaser jumping at empty air.
• Save the freeze ray. As a runner, zap the IT dino when it is close behind you. As IT, zap a runner who is about to reach a jump pad.
• Jumps are forgiving. You can still jump a split second after running off a ledge, and a jump pressed just before landing still counts.
• The AI reads the map. AI dinos plan routes across platforms, ladders, pads and portals. Easy AI runs a bit slower than you, while Hard AI runs at full speed.

Is Tag Game free?

Yes. It is completely free, with no account and no install, and it works on desktop, Chromebook, tablet and phone.

Can two people play on one computer?

Yes. Pick 2 Players on the setup screen. Player 1 uses W A S D and player 2 uses the arrow keys, and you can add up to 2 AI dinos to make it a four-way game.

How do I stop getting tagged straight back?

You don’t need to. Tag Game has a 1-second no-tag-back rule, so the dino you just tagged has to wait before it can tag anyone.

Is my progress saved?

Your settings, rounds played, solo wins and your lowest IT time in a winning solo round are saved in your browser.
