Ninja Game

Ninja Game is a stealth platformer in which you guide a small ninja through 12 hand-built night levels to recover a secret scroll. Guards carry lanterns and see in a cone in front of them, watch lanterns sweep their beams across courtyards, and the ninja has to wall-jump, dash and swing past all of it without being seen. You can play this ninja game online free in your browser with no download, using a keyboard or the on-screen buttons on a phone or tablet.

How to play

Each level ends at a glowing scroll. Reach it to clear the level and unlock the next one. Along the way you will find gold coins, which are optional but count toward a star.

• Run and jump: use the Left and Right arrow keys (or A and D) to run, and Space, Up, W or Z to jump. Hold the jump key for a full jump, or tap it for a short hop.
• Wall-jump: jump into a wall, then press jump again to kick off it. Holding toward a wall makes you slide down it slowly. In a narrow gap between two walls, keep jumping to bounce back and forth and climb up the chimney.
• Dash: press X or Shift to dash forward in a quick, flat burst. In the air you get one dash per jump, and the dash comes back when you land, touch a wall or grab a ring. There is a short cooldown between dashes.
• Grappling hook: when a metal ring is in range, it lights up. Hold C (or K or E) to hook onto it and swing. Press left or right to pump the swing. Let go to fly off with your speed, or press jump to leap off the rope with an extra push upward.

On a touchscreen, use the arrow, JUMP, DASH and HOOK buttons under the game. Hold HOOK to stay on the rope.

Guards, lanterns and hiding

A guard sees everything inside the yellow cone in front of them, but walls block their view. If any part of the cone touches you, or you bump into a guard, you are spotted. The cone turns red, and the level restarts from the beginning after a moment. Falling into a pit or landing on spikes also restarts the level.

• Patrol guards walk to the end of their route, stop for a moment and turn around. Stay behind them and keep your distance.
• Turning guards stand still and look left and right, switching sides every few seconds. A small question mark appears over their head just before they turn.
• Watch lanterns hang above courtyards and sweep a narrow beam back and forth below them.
• Bushes hide you completely. Walk into one and stand still, and a HIDDEN label appears. A guard can walk right past you while you hide, but moving, dashing or swinging out of the bush makes you visible again.

Stars, levels and saving

Every level has three stars to earn: one for finishing, one for collecting every coin and one for finishing within the par time. Stars from different runs add up. The level select screen shows the stars and best time of each level, and you can replay any level you have unlocked. Your progress, stars and best times are saved in your browser.

Tips

• Watch before you move. Every guard repeats the same pattern, so stop at a safe distance and see where the cone goes before you commit.
• Go over, not through. Guards look straight ahead, so ledges and beams high above them are usually safe. Turning guards often stand under a gap you can jump through while they look away.
• Save your dash. On wide gaps, jump first and dash near the top of the jump. Dashing from the ground uses up your cooldown before you need it.
• Swing, then jump. On rope chains, jump off near the high point of the swing to gain height for the next ring.

Is Ninja Game free?

Yes. It is free to play with no account and nothing to install. Press Play, Enter or Space to start.

Does it work on phones and Chromebooks?

Yes. On a phone or tablet, the game shows on-screen buttons for moving, jumping, dashing and hooking, and touching the game won’t scroll the page. On a Chromebook or laptop, use the keyboard in any modern browser.

What happens when a guard spots me?

The level restarts from the beginning and the Retries counter goes up by one. The level timer starts again too, so the time you are scored on is always one clean run.

Can I pause or restart?

Press P or Esc to pause, and R to restart the level. The game also pauses if you switch tabs. Press L to open the level select at any time.
