Canyon Jet

Canyon Jet is a top-down jet game where you race a fast jet through winding canyons and open sky. Fly through gold rings to keep the clock running, grab fuel cans before the tank runs dry and slip past hot-air balloons and storm cells with a quick barrel roll. There are 9 stages with bronze, silver and gold medal times, plus an endless Free Flight mode. You can play it free in your browser with no download, using a keyboard, a mouse or a touch screen.

How to play

Your jet flies forward on its own. Steer, pick your moments to go fast and reach the checkered finish line before the clock or the fuel runs out.

• Steer: use the Left and Right arrow keys or A and D. With a mouse or a finger, press anywhere on the game and drag.
• Fly through rings: each gold ring adds a few seconds to a short clock. A missed ring turns grey and adds nothing. If the clock reaches zero, the stage ends.
• Boost and brake: hold Up, W or Shift to boost, which makes the jet 60 percent faster. Hold Down or S to brake. On a touch screen, hold the BOOST button.
• Watch your fuel: the gauge drains all the time, and boosting burns fuel more than three times as fast. Green fuel cans refill it. An empty tank ends the run.
• Avoid hazards: the canyon walls, hot-air balloons and the dark center of a storm cell each cost one of your 3 hull points. A hit slows you down, and losing all 3 is a crash. The outer edge of a storm cell won’t damage you, but its turbulence shakes you sideways and slows you.
• Barrel roll: press Space or X, or tap the ROLL button on a touch screen. The jet dashes sideways in the direction you are steering and passes through balloons and storm cells unharmed. It does not protect you from canyon walls and needs about a second to recharge.

Stages and medals

The 9 stages mix open sky with canyon runs, from the gentle First Flight through The Narrows, Balloon Fiesta and Storm Front to Grand Canyon Run, the longest stage.

Reach the finish to clear a stage and unlock the next one. Fast times earn bronze, silver or gold medals, and the stage-clear screen shows all three targets. Each stage has the same layout every time, so you can learn the route. You can finish without boosting, but medals need plenty of boost.

Free Flight

Free Flight is an endless run through open sky and canyon sections, with a new layout every time and no clock. You score 1 point per meter and 50 per ring, and rings also give a little fuel. The canyons narrow, hazards come more often and fuel cans grow further apart the longer you fly.

Tips

• Boost when you can reach the next can. Boosting early or late saves the same time, so spend fuel when a can is coming up and ease off near the LOW FUEL warning.
• Brake in the narrows. A wall scrape costs far more time than a short brake before a tight bend.
• Save the roll for balloons. A dash is the quickest way past a drifting balloon. Just don’t roll toward a wall.

Is Canyon Jet free?

Yes. It is free to play with no account and nothing to install.

Does it work on phones and Chromebooks?

Yes. On touch screens, drag to steer, hold BOOST and tap ROLL; the game won’t scroll the page. On a Chromebook or laptop, use the arrow keys or WASD.

Is my progress saved?

Your best time for each stage, the stages you have unlocked, your Free Flight best and your sound setting are saved in your browser on this device.

Can I pause the game?

Press P or Esc, or use the Pause button. The game also pauses if you switch tabs.

Is this a combat game?

No. There are no weapons or enemies, just a race against the clock and your fuel gauge.
