Boggle is the 1972 Hasbro word game — 16 letter dice rattled into a 4×4 plastic grid, players race to find as many adjacent-letter words as possible before the 3-minute sand timer runs out. How to play

16 letters appear in a 4×4 grid.
Click adjacent letters to build words. Adjacent = horizontal, vertical, OR diagonal.
Each letter used ONCE per word.
Words 3+ letters and in the dictionary.

Scoring: 3-4 = 1, 5 = 2, 6 = 3, 7 = 5, 8+ = 11 (standard Boggle).

Beginner strategy

Scan for prefixes. RE-, UN-, IN-, PRE-, MIS-, DIS-.
Look at corners first. Corner letters touch only 3 others. Plan corner-letter words while easy.
3-letter starters. THE, AND, FOR, ARE, BUT, NOT, YOU.
Pluralize ruthlessly. CAT → CATS, RAT → RATS.
Long words pay disproportionately. One 8-letter word = 11 of 3-letter words.

Intermediate strategy

Time pressure is the challenge. Anyone finds 30 words with no clock. 3 minutes filters skill.
S-curve scanning. Look for snake-shaped paths.
Diagonal connections. Often missed in casual play.
End-letter sweeping. Find ending letters first, then prefixes that fit.
Long word hunting. Most rounds, look for 6+ letter words early.

Boggle vs Big Boggle

Standard Boggle is 4×4 (this version). Big Boggle (1979) is 5×5 with minimum 4-letter words. Super Big Boggle (2013) is 6×6. As grid grows, word count grows superlinearly — Big Boggle averages 60-100 words in 3 minutes; standard averages 20-30.
