This free online tally counter replaces a handheld clicker. Tap the big pad, click it or press Space, and the count goes up by one. It keeps several named counters at once, counts by any step size, alerts you when you hit a target and logs every change with the time, so you can export the whole session as a spreadsheet.

What the tally counter does

A tally counter keeps a running count of things you see or do: people walking through a door, laps around a track, stitches and rows in knitting, reps in a workout, birds at a feeder, cars passing a junction, or points in a game. This one shows the count in large digits on a colored pad that fills most of the screen, so you can keep your eyes on what you are counting and tap without looking.

Each tap plays a short click and, on phones that allow it, a tiny vibration. Both can be turned off with the Sound and Vibrate buttons. Your counters, settings and history are saved in this browser, so the count is still there if you close the tab or reload the page.

How to use it

  • Count up: tap or click the big pad, press the +1 button, or press Space or the Up arrow.
  • Count down: press the -1 button or the Down arrow. The count stops at zero unless you turn on Allow below zero in Settings.
  • Undo: press Undo, U or Ctrl+Z to take back the last change, including a reset.
  • Reset: press Reset, then press it again within 3 seconds. The two-tap confirm stops a stray tap from wiping your count.
  • More counters: tap + Add to create up to 12 counters. Switch between them with the chips above the pad or the Left and Right arrow keys. Each one keeps its own count.

Settings for each counter

Open the Settings tab to change the counter you are on:

  • Name: call it Laps, Visitors, Row 12 or anything up to 24 characters.
  • Color: pick one of eight colors. The pad, buttons and chip take that color, which makes it easy to see which counter is active.
  • Step: count by 2, 5, 10 or any whole number up to 1,000 per tap. The buttons change to show the step, such as +5 and -5.
  • Target: set a goal, such as 100 reps. A bar along the bottom of the pad fills as you get closer, and when you reach the target you see a message, hear a short chime and feel a buzz on phones that support vibration. If the count drops below the target and climbs back, it alerts you again.

History and CSV export

The History tab lists every change, newest first, with the time, the counter, the change and the new count. The list shows the latest 200 entries and the tool keeps up to 2,000.

Press Export CSV to save the full history as a CSV file with the columns Time, Counter, Action, Change and Count. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or any spreadsheet app. The Counters tab has a Totals CSV button that saves one row per counter with its current count, step and target.

Tips

  • Use one counter per category. For a survey, make Cars, Bikes and Pedestrians as separate counters with different colors, then export the totals at the end.
  • Turn off the sound in quiet places. The vibration still confirms each tap on phones that support it.

FAQ

Is this tally counter free?

Yes. It is free with no account and nothing to install. The first tap on the pad starts counting.

Will my count be saved if I close the page?

Yes. Counters, settings and history are stored in your browser on this device. Clearing your browser’s site data removes them, and they do not sync to other devices.

Can I count down or go negative?

Yes. The -1 button and the Down arrow count down. By default the count stops at zero, but you can turn on Allow below zero for any counter that needs negative numbers, such as a score.

Why does my phone not vibrate?

Vibration only works in browsers that support it, mostly on Android phones. If your browser does not support it, the Vibrate button is hidden and the click sound still plays.

How many counters can I have?

Up to 12 at once. Delete one in Settings (press Delete counter twice) to make room for another.
