Snowball Fight is a side-view backyard battle between two snow forts. Duck behind your wall to pack snowballs, pop up to lob them across the yard in a high arc, chip the other fort apart block by block and knock out the rival squad. Play this snowball fight game online free in your browser with a mouse, keyboard or touch screen.

How to play

You defend the fort on the left and the rival squad hides behind the fort on the right.

  • Aim and throw: press anywhere on the yard and drag back, like pulling a slingshot. The drag direction sets the angle, its length sets the power, and dots preview the start of the arc. Let go to throw. On a keyboard, hold Space to build power, change the angle with W/Up and S/Down, then release.
  • Duck and pop up: your kid crouches behind the wall whenever you are not aiming. You are exposed only while aiming and for a moment after each throw.
  • Pack snowballs: hold the Pack button, S or Down to scoop snow and pack a snowball. Each takes about 0.7 seconds, and you can carry 5.
  • Move: walk left and right behind your fort with A and D, the arrow keys or the on-screen arrows. Standing farther back from the wall leaves you open to lobs that drop over the top.

Forts, outs and rounds

Each fort is a small grid of packed snow blocks, three blocks wide and up to four high. A snowball that hits a block cracks it, and a second hit knocks it out. Blocks above a gap slide down, so a wall gets shorter as it takes damage. A ducking kid is fully hidden behind three rows, so wearing a wall down opens up a rival who keeps hiding.

A snowball that touches a kid makes them out with a cartoon poof, and the next kid in the squad runs in from the back of the yard. Knock out the whole rival squad to win the round. The first side to win 2 rounds takes the yard. Between rounds you get 4 snow blocks: tap a column of your fort to stack a new block on it, or to repair a cracked one. The other side rebuilds too.

Power-ups and wind

  • Snow Boots: a floating boots bubble appears over the middle of the yard now and then. Hit it to move and pack twice as fast for 10 seconds.
  • Mega Snowball: hit the big snowball bubble and your next throw is a giant snowball that wipes out a 3 by 3 patch of the fort it hits, or knocks out a kid.
  • Wind: from yard 5 on and in 2-player matches, the wind arrow at the top shows a steady breeze that pushes every snowball sideways. The dotted preview does not include the wind, so aim a little upwind.

The 10 yards and 2-player mode

The campaign has 10 backyards, each defended by a CPU squad with its own style. Early rivals are wild throwers with low walls. Later ones lob over your fort, chip your walls, rebuild big forts, dodge around, throw rapid fire or bring a Mega Snowball to every round. Clearing a yard unlocks the next and earns up to 3 stars, losing one for each round you drop and one if four of your kids get knocked out. Progress is saved in your browser.

2 Players is a hot-seat match on one device. Players take turns of up to 10 seconds: move, pack and throw one snowball, then pass to the other player once it lands. While it isn’t your turn, your kid stays ducked behind the fort.

Tips

  • Pack before you pop up. Keep two or three snowballs ready so you never sit still packing while the rival aims at you.
  • Lob when they hide. A steep throw can drop behind a wall onto a kid who stands back from it. Flat, hard throws are better for chipping the top of a wall.
  • Repair first. A cracked block is one hit from falling, so fixing it is often worth more than adding a new row.
