Superhero Game lets you make your own superhero and then put that hero to work. Design an original hero in the creator, give them one power, and take on 12 side-view rescue missions across a cartoon city: cats stuck in trees, falling flowerpots, window fires, a runaway train, a broken bridge and a gang of silly robots that fall apart into springs and bolts when you bonk them. Play free in your browser on a computer, tablet or phone, with no download.

Make your own superhero

The hero creator has six tabs. Pick a suit color and a trim color for the boots, belt and gloves, a cape color and style (long cape, short cape or scarf, or no cape at all), a mask (domino, visor, hood, goggles or none) and its color, a chest emblem (star, heart, ring, triangle, paw, moon, dino footprint or hexagon) and its color, and a skin tone. New name rolls a random hero name such as Professor Pancake, and Random hero rolls everything at once. Your hero and stars are saved in your browser.

Choose a power

Every hero gets one power, and each one plays differently:

  • Flight: the Power button switches flying on and off. While flying you steer freely in every direction, and you can carry a water barrel.
  • Super speed: you run faster, and Power is a dash that crosses gaps, bonks robots and blows out fires you dash through.
  • Super strength: Action picks up water barrels and steel girders, and Power throws them. With empty hands, Power is a punch that smashes cracked walls and can even catch the runaway train.
  • Ice: a freeze ray that puts out fires, freezes robots and turns river water into ice platforms you can walk on.
  • Lightning: a zap that switches on machines like generators, pump hydrants and the bridge crane, and short-circuits robots.
  • Shrink: makes you tiny so you fit through small holes in walls. While small, hold Action at a machine to crawl inside and fix it.
  • Dino roar: a T-rex roar that knocks robots apart, shakes cats out of trees, blows out fires and crumbles cracked walls.

How to play the missions

Each mission briefing lists its jobs and which powers can finish it. Some missions work with any power, while others need a specific one: Tiny Tunnels can only be done by a hero who can shrink, and Treetop Trouble needs flight or the roar to reach the high cats. If your power does not fit, the briefing lets you switch before you start.

  • Run with the arrow keys or A and D, jump with Up, W or Space, and use the on-screen buttons on a touch screen.
  • Touch a cat to rescue it. Stand under a wobbling flowerpot to catch it as it falls.
  • Jump on a robot from above to bonk it. Walking into one costs a heart, and three bumps fail the mission.
  • Pull the brake lever with Action to stop the train, or hold Action at a generator to crank it if your power allows.
  • Finish every job within 120 seconds.

The 12 missions are First Patrol, Flowerpot Alley, Treetop Trouble, Hot Block, Runaway Train, Broken Bridge, Robot Rumble, Tiny Tunnels, River Run, Blackout, Rubble Road and Big Rescue Day. Each win earns up to three stars: one for finishing, one for beating the par time and one for taking no robot bumps. Winning a mission unlocks the next one, and there are 36 stars in total.

Tips for three stars

  • Play to your power. A speed hero can dash straight through a low fire, while an ice hero should stand back and freeze it from a distance.
  • Bonk from above. Robots only hurt you from the side. Jump early and steer down onto their heads, or use a power that works at range.
  • Race the train. Only flight and super speed reach the brake lever in time. Other heroes should stop the train as it passes.

FAQ

Can I make my own superhero?

Yes. You choose the suit, cape, mask, emblem, colors, skin tone, power and name. All of the art is original, so you will not find any famous comic book characters here.

Does it work on a phone or Chromebook?

Yes. On touch screens there are large on-screen buttons for moving, jumping, Action and Power. On a keyboard, J or X is Action, K or Z is Power, and P or Esc pauses. The game also pauses when you switch tabs.

Is it violent?

No. The only enemies are cartoon robots, and they simply fall apart into springs, bolts and gears.
