Snow Game is a snow day in your browser, with two ways to play. Have a backyard snowball fight against the cartoon dino kids next door across 8 yards, or take on a friend on the same screen. When you want a break, roll giant snowballs across the yard and build your own snowman. Play Snow Game free online with no download or sign-up, on a computer or a phone. Nobody gets hurt: a hit just makes a kid dizzy.

How to play the snowball fight

You hold the bottom half of the yard and the rivals hold the top. Nobody can cross the middle line.

  • Pack before you throw. Hold the action button (Space or F, or the Pack / Throw button) to pack a snowball. It takes a little under a second, you must stand still, and you can carry three.
  • Tap to throw. A quick tap throws at the nearest rival. Or click or tap a spot in the yard to throw there.
  • Duck behind your forts. A fort stops any snowball that hits it, and each hit knocks off a layer. Hold Duck (C or Shift) behind a fort to pack in safety. You can’t throw while ducking. If you stand right behind a fort, your head pokes out and a good throw can still get you.
  • Build your forts back up. Hold Build (E) next to one of your own forts to add a layer, up to four. A fort with no layers left is a flat mound you can walk over.
  • Three hits and you’re out. A hit makes a kid dizzy, unable to move or throw for a moment. You can take three hits; rivals take two or three, depending on the yard. Get every rival out to win.

Stars: win a yard without being hit for three stars, with one hit for two, and with two hits for one. Each win unlocks the next yard, and stars and best times are saved in your browser.

The 8 yards

Yard 1 is one slow rival who throws wide. After that, the rivals get smarter: they aim ahead of you when you move, duck when they see a snowball coming, wait for you to stand up, and patch their forts while you’re ducking or out of snowballs. In the last yard, the Snow Castle, three sharp throwers hide behind four forts.

Two players

Pick 2 Players to face a friend on one keyboard or one touch screen. Player 1 is at the bottom and uses WASD, with F to pack and throw, G to duck and E to build. Player 2 is at the top and uses the arrow keys, with K to pack and throw, L to duck and J to build. Throws aim at the other player automatically. On a touch screen, each player drags in their own half to move and has their own buttons. Three hits wins, and the game keeps a running tally.

Build a snowman

  • Start a ball by pressing the action button while facing fresh snow, then walk to push it. The ball picks up the snow it rolls over and grows, leaving a trail of grass behind it.
  • Let go by pressing it again away from other balls, and press it beside a loose ball to grab it again.
  • Stack by pushing a smaller ball up against a bigger one and pressing the action button. The top ball has to be smaller than the one below it, and a ball over 84 cm across is too heavy to lift.
  • Decorate your snowman when the third ball goes on: eyes, a carrot nose, a smile, buttons, stick arms, a top hat or beanie, and a scarf in three colors. Press Done to see how tall it is.

A finished snowman earns one star. You get a second star for good proportions (each ball between 55% and 92% the size of the one below) and a third if it’s at least 150 cm tall with four or more decorations. Your tallest snowman is saved.

Tips

  • Pack while you’re ducking, then come up with three snowballs and throw them quickly.
  • A dizzy rival can’t move, so that’s the best moment to throw again.
  • Stand close behind your own fort to throw over it. From farther back, your throw hits your own wall.
