Rainbow Game is a color-mixing puzzle for kids and families. Every level shows a rainbow with gaps where some of the bands should be. You fix it with paint: drip red, yellow and blue into a mixing bowl to make orange, green, indigo and violet, then pour each new color into the right band. The rainbow always runs red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet from the outside in, so you learn both how colors mix and where each one sits. Play Rainbow Game free online in your browser with no download, on a keyboard, mouse or touch screen.
How to play
- Look at the rainbow: the dashed bands are the missing ones. Fill all of them to finish the level.
- Add paint: tap a paint pot to drop one drop into the bowl, or drag the pot onto a bowl. The dots under the bowl show how many drops it holds, and the label names the color you have made.
- Pour: when the bowl holds the right color, tap the matching band or drag the bowl onto it. A wrong band refuses the paint, and that counts as a move.
- Fix mistakes: Rinse empties the bowl, and Undo takes back your last move for free. If you use more paint than the pots can spare, the game tells you to undo.
Mixing recipes
The game uses the painter’s color wheel with red, yellow and blue as the primary colors. What matters is the balance of drops, not the total, so two red and two yellow is still orange.
- Orange: red + yellow.
- Green: yellow + blue.
- Violet: red + blue.
- Indigo: two blue + one red, a deep blue-violet. A violet drop plus a blue drop works too.
- In-between colors: two red and one yellow makes red-orange, which is not a band. Add one more yellow to balance it back to orange. Red, yellow and blue all together turn muddy brown.
Worlds, stars and the studio
There are 24 levels in three worlds. Paint Meadow teaches the recipes with pots that never run out, and the missing bands are tinted so you can see which color goes where. In Cloud Garden the pots hold a few drops each, some pots hold ready-mixed orange, green or violet, and the missing bands are blank, so you have to remember the order of the rainbow. Storm Peaks gives you two bowls and one more rule: bands must be painted from the outside in. Keep a color waiting in one bowl while you mix the next band in the other, and pour one bowl into the other when you need to combine them.
Every level can earn three stars: one for fixing the rainbow, one for finishing within the par number of moves shown at the top, and one for using no hints. Stars and unlocked levels are saved in your browser.
Rainbow Studio is a free-paint mode with no rules. Press and drag to draw a full rainbow arch, sweep a rainbow brush that changes color as it goes, stamp fluffy clouds or paint with nine colors in three brush sizes. Save picture downloads your drawing as an image.
Tips
- Count before you drip. In the later worlds, add up how many red, yellow and blue drops all the missing bands need, and compare that with the numbers on the pots.
- Use leftovers. Some levels start with paint already in a bowl. Before you rinse, check whether one more drop turns it into a color you need.
- Remember Roy G. Biv. The first letters of the colors spell ROY G BIV, a handy name for the order from the outside band to the inside one. The color strip under the bowls shows it too.
- Ask for a hint. The Hint button lights up the next best move. It costs the third star, but you can replay the level later to earn it back.
FAQ
Is Rainbow Game free?
Yes. It is free to play with no account and nothing to install. Pick a level and press Play.
Is it suitable for young children?
Yes. There are no timers and no way to lose, and undo is always free. Younger players can start in Paint Meadow or spend their time in Rainbow Studio, while older kids and adults will find the last world a real puzzle.
Why does the rainbow have seven colors?
A rainbow is really a smooth spread of colors. It forms when sunlight bends and reflects inside raindrops, and each color leaves the drops at a slightly different angle, with red on the outside of the main bow. Isaac Newton described it with seven named colors, and that list is the one most people learn at school.
