Light Cycle is a fast neon arena game: your cycle races across a glowing grid and leaves a solid wall of light behind it. Turn at the right moment to box your rivals in, and stay out of every wall yourself. Play this light cycle game free in your browser against up to five AI bots or a friend on the same device, with no download or sign-up.
How to play
Every cycle moves forward on its own and can only turn 90 degrees left or right. Wherever a cycle goes, it leaves a light trail that stays for the rest of the round.
- Crashes: you are out of the round if you hit the arena edge, any light trail (yours included) or another cycle. If two cycles drive into the same cell at the same moment, or meet face to face, both crash.
- Winning a round: the last cycle still riding wins it. If the final cycles crash at the same time, the round is a draw and nobody scores.
- Winning the match: matches are best of five, so the first rider to three round wins takes the match.
- Boost: hold boost to move at double speed while the meter lasts. A full meter gives about two seconds of boost, and it refills slowly once you let go.
Game modes
- vs Bots: you ride the cyan cycle against 1 to 5 AI opponents. The Cautious bot always keeps the most open space, the Aggressive bot chases the nearest rider, and the Cutter bot aims at the spot just ahead of you to slice across your path. All three check how much room each move leaves them before they commit, so they won’t drive into a wall when an open lane exists.
- 2 Players: two people share one keyboard or one screen. Player 1 steers with W A S D and boosts with Left Shift; Player 2 uses the arrow keys and boosts with Right Shift or Enter. On a phone or tablet the arena is split down the middle, and each player taps the left or right side of their own half to turn.
- Survival: you face the bots in an arena that shrinks. Every few seconds a new ring of wall closes in from the edges, and any cycle caught on it crashes. Your longest survival time is saved as your best.
Controls
Steer with the arrow keys or W A S D and hold Space or Shift to boost. On touch screens, tap the left or right half of the arena to turn that way and hold the Boost button. P or Esc pauses.
Strategy tips
- Count your space, not your rivals. Before you cut someone off, check that the side you’re sealing yourself into is bigger than theirs. A clever trap that leaves you a small pocket loses the round anyway.
- Save boost for the cut. Boost is most useful for getting ahead of a rival and turning across their path. Spending it in open space leaves you with nothing when it matters.
- Watch the Cutter. It aims a few cells ahead of where you’re going. A sudden turn often makes it overshoot and seal itself off.
- In Survival, stay central. The walls close from the outside, so riders who drift to the edges get squeezed first.
FAQ
Is this light cycle game free?
Yes. It runs in your browser with no account or download. Press Start or tap the arena to begin.
Can I play against a friend?
Yes. Switch the mode to 2 Players. You can share one keyboard (W A S D against the arrow keys) or one touch screen, where each player gets half of the arena to tap.
What happens if two cycles crash at the same time?
Both are knocked out. If they were the last two riders, the round counts as a draw and neither scores, so the match goes on until someone reaches three wins.
How smart are the AI bots?
Each bot looks at its three possible moves and measures how much open area every move leaves it, using a flood fill of the grid. The Cautious bot picks the roomiest option, while the Aggressive and Cutter bots hunt you but only choose moves that keep most of their space. They can still get trapped, but they never steer into a wall when a safe cell is next to them.
Does it work on a phone or Chromebook?
Yes. It scales to small screens, and touching the arena won’t scroll the page.
