Basketball Shootout is a chaotic one-button physics game: two floppy players wobble around the court, jumping, flailing and trying to dunk. Play Basketball Shootout online free against the CPU, or grab a friend and play two players on one keyboard or one phone. It runs in your browser with no download.

How to play

Each player has just one button, and the first to score 5 baskets wins. Pick 1 Player vs CPU or 2 Players from the menu, then press Play.

• Jump: press your button to jump. Your player sways back and forth, and you leap in whichever direction you’re leaning at that moment.
• Grab: hold the button to swing your arm up. Get your hand to the ball and your player grabs it.
• Shoot: release the button while your arm is raised to throw the ball at your opponent’s hoop.
• Don’t faceplant: land badly and you’ll fall on your face, losing precious time while your rival goes for the ball.

In 2-player mode, Green uses W and Orange uses the up arrow. On a touch screen, each player holds their own touch pad. Against the CPU, W, the up arrow, Space or a tap anywhere all work, and your win streak and best streak are saved in your browser.

Tips

• Time your jump to your lean. Watch your player sway and only press when they’re tilting toward the ball or the hoop. Jumping at the wrong moment sends you the wrong way.
• Short taps for position, long holds for shots. A quick press gets you moving. Save the long hold for when the ball is within reach.
• Release at the top of the swing. Letting go while your arm is fully raised gives the best throw. Releasing early usually just drops the ball.
• Get close before shooting. Long throws are a gamble. Jumping toward the hoop first makes the basket far more likely, and dunks count just the same.
• Block by getting in the way. Jumping between your opponent and their target hoop is often the easiest way to stop a score.
• Embrace the chaos. The physics are deliberately floppy, and some baskets go in by accident. Keep pressing and the lucky bounces even out.
