House Game

House Game is a cozy house design and decorating game you play right in your browser. You get a six-room cutaway dollhouse, a catalog of 65 pieces of furniture and decor, 20 wall finishes and 12 floors. Decorate every room the way you like, or take on eight client requests where each client wants something specific on a budget. It’s free, with no download, on desktop, tablet and phone.

How to play

Choose a mode on the start screen. Free design opens the dollhouse: a living room and kitchen on the ground floor, a bedroom and bathroom upstairs, a kid’s room in the attic and a garden out to the side. Tap any room to step inside it.

• Walls and floors. The first two tabs change the room’s finish. Walls come as plain paint, patterned wallpaper (stripes, dots, leaves, checks, stars), brick, wood panels or open sky for the garden. Floors include oak, walnut, herringbone, checker and white tile, marble, three carpets, grass, a stone patio and decking.
• Add pieces. The other tabs are the catalog: Seating, Tables, Bedroom, Bath, Kitchen, Lights, Decor, Plants and Garden. Tap a piece to drop it into the room. With a mouse you can also drag it straight from the catalog to the spot you want.
• Arrange. Drag pieces around the room. Furniture always snaps to the floor, and you can slide it forward or back on the floor. Paintings, mirrors, clocks, shelves, windows and curtains stay on the wall, and pendant lamps and hanging plants hang from the ceiling. Small things like table lamps, vases and books can go anywhere, even on a desk.
• Edit. Select a piece to flip it left or right, recolor it from a 12-color palette, copy it, delete it, or send it to the front or back. Undo takes back your last changes.
• Save. Everything saves automatically in your browser. There are three separate houses to switch between, and Save PNG downloads a picture of the room you’re in or the whole dollhouse.

Client requests

In Client requests you design one room at a time for eight clients. Each client card says what they want, for example a reading corner with an armchair, a lamp, a rug, a plant and blue walls for under $600. Every piece, paint, wallpaper and floor has a price, and the card shows your running room cost.

A checklist under the request turns each line green as you meet it, and the budget counts as one of the lines. Press Hand over to get a rating. Meet every line for three stars, at least three quarters for two stars and at least half for one star. Below half, the client turns the room down and you can fix it and try again. One star or more unlocks the next client. Make all eight happy to finish, and use Replay clients to start over.

Tips

• Read the whole request first. Clients care about wall color and floor type as well as furniture. A perfect set of furniture on the wrong floor still loses a star.
• Watch the budget. Paint costs less than wallpaper, and a potted plant costs half as much as a tall one. Over budget? Swap a floor lamp for a table lamp.
• Rugs go underneath. A new rug is placed on the bottom layer, under your furniture. For anything else that overlaps the wrong way, select it and press Front or Back.
• Use Copy for pairs. Two nightstands, two chairs or two plants are quicker with Copy, and the copy keeps the original’s color and direction.
• Stuck for ideas? In Free design, the Surprise button fills the room with a random set of fitting pieces and finishes. Undo puts the room back if you don’t like it.

Is House Game free?

Yes. It’s completely free to play in your browser with no account and no install.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Tap a catalog item to add it, then drag it with your finger. Dragging inside the room won’t scroll the page. On a keyboard, the arrow keys nudge the selected piece, F flips it, the bracket keys change the layer order, C copies, Delete removes and Z undoes.

Are my houses saved?

Yes. Your three houses, your client rooms and your stars are saved in your browser on this device. Use Save PNG to keep a picture.

How many items are there?

There are 65 pieces in the catalog, from sofas, bunk beds and bathtubs to string lights, a rocking horse, a bird bath and a swing set. Each one can be recolored, so the same sofa can be navy, mustard or pink.
