Whisperwood Manor is a cozy haunted house game where a few friendly ghosts have locked you inside for fun. Sweep your flashlight through five dark rooms, read the clues they left behind and solve seven small puzzles to find the Front Door Key. There are no jump scares and nothing gory, just soft candlelight, creaky floorboards and ghosts who would rather give you a hint than a fright. Play the haunted house game free online in your browser, with no download, on a computer, tablet or phone.
How to play
You start in the grand hall with empty pockets. The house is dark, and your flashlight beam follows your mouse or finger. Anything you can look at closer has a little sparkle on it.
- Explore: tap or click something to inspect it. Notes, plaques and books show their text in the box under the game, and puzzles open as a close-up with a Back button.
- Move between rooms: use the room buttons for the hall, library, kitchen, attic and cellar, or take the stairs in the hall and the trapdoor in the kitchen. The attic and cellar are locked until you find their keys.
- Use your flashlight: some clues are written in ghost ink and only glow inside the beam, so sweep it slowly over walls and floors.
- Collect items: each solved puzzle gives you the next item, such as a Winding Key or a box of Matches. Items are used automatically when you tap the thing they belong to.
- Escape: open the front door with the Front Door Key to stop the timer.
Every answer comes from something inside the house, so you never need outside knowledge. A family tree, a tea party invitation, a row of teacups, a doormat, a ghost’s song, a trail of footprints and a cellar full of shy critters all point the way.
The puzzles
- Portraits: four family portraits hang in the wrong order. Swap them until they match the plaque’s rule.
- Grandfather clock: wind it open and set the hands to the right time.
- Candles: light four colored candles in the right order. A wrong candle and a gentle breeze blows them all out.
- Bookshelf: pull out lettered books to spell a word and the shelf swings open.
- Piano: Melody the ghost plays a five-note tune, and you play it back. Listen as often as you like; the keys glow, so it works with the sound off too.
- Creaky floorboard: one board in the attic is loose, and you need the right tool to lift it.
- Cellar chest: a three-dial lock that asks you to count its friends.
Hints, timer and saving
Tap any ghost for a free nudge toward your next step. The Hint button gives two levels of help for each step, a pointer first and then the answer, and the hints you use are counted on the escape screen. A timer runs while you play and stops when you pause or switch tabs. Your progress is saved in your browser after every move, so you can close the page and pick up where you left off with Continue. Your best escape time is saved too.
Tips
- Read everything. Most clues are in one room and needed in another, so a note in the kitchen can solve a puzzle in the hall.
- Sweep the light. If a room seems to have nothing left, move the beam across bare walls and floors before asking for a hint.
- Count carefully in the cellar. Critters hide in every corner, high and low, and they only really show up in your beam.
- Race your own time. Once you know the house, try a no-hint run and beat your best time.
FAQ
Is this haunted house game scary?
No. It is made to be spooky-cute and kid-friendly. There are no jump scares, no gore and no loud sounds, and every ghost in the house is friendly and helpful.
How long does it take to escape?
There are seven puzzles across five rooms, so a first playthrough is a short sitting rather than a long adventure, and how long it takes depends on how many hints you use. Once you know the answers, it can be done in a few minutes.
Does it save my progress?
Yes. Your rooms, items, solved puzzles, timer and hint count are saved in your browser as you play. Press Continue on the start screen to carry on, or New game to start over.
Can I play it on a phone?
Yes. Drag your finger to move the flashlight and tap to inspect things. On a keyboard, the arrow keys move the beam, Enter inspects, keys 1 to 5 change rooms, H gives a hint and P pauses.
