Dolphin Game

Dolphin Game is a side-view ocean game where you play a wild bottlenose-style dolphin in the open sea. Leap out of the waves, flip and spin in the air, use echolocation to find what hides in the murky deep, free sea turtles from nets and guide lost calves back to their pod. You can play Dolphin Game online free in your browser with no download, on a keyboard, a mouse or a phone’s touch screen.

How to play

• Swim with momentum: steer with the arrow keys or WASD, or hold down on the water and drag, and the dolphin turns toward your finger or pointer and speeds up. Let go and it glides on and slowly floats up.
• Leap: dive down to build speed, then swim steeply up. If you hit the surface fast enough, you fly out of the water. In the air only gravity acts on you, so a faster exit gives a higher, longer jump.
• Flip and spin: in the air, press Left or Right to flip backward or forward, and hold Down (or X) to spin around your body like a spinner dolphin. On touch, hold the left or right half of the game to flip and tap to add a spin.
• Re-enter cleanly: the game compares the angle of your body with the direction you are falling. Come back in nose-first for a clean entry and 1.5 times the trick points. Landing sideways or upside down is a belly flop that scores very little.
• Breathe: the Air meter drains while you are underwater and refills quickly at the surface or in the air. If it runs out, the run ends.

Echolocation, turtles and calves

The lower part of the ocean is dark and murky, and some things down there cannot be seen at all until you ping. Press Space or E, use the Ping button, or quickly tap the water to send out an echolocation ring. Anything the spreading ring reaches lights up for about seven seconds.

• Shells lie hidden on the seabed. Ping to reveal them, then swim into them to collect them.
• Sea turtles are trapped in floating nets near the surface. Stay pressed against a net for about a second and the turtle swims free.
• Lost calves hide in the murk. Ping to find one, touch it, and it follows you. Lead it to the pod of adults further along.
• Fish swim in small schools. Swim through them to eat them for points.

Missions and Endless

Twelve missions teach each skill in turn, from eating fish and a first leap to a clean double flip, a three-spin leap and a final mission that combines turtles, calves and fish. Finishing one unlocks the next, and progress is saved in your browser. In Endless your air drains a little faster the further you travel, and your best score is saved.

Each mission shows a real dolphin fact taken from Wikipedia, such as how spinner dolphins can spin two to seven times in a single leap, how dolphins find food by echolocation, and how the orca is the largest member of the oceanic dolphin family.

Tips

• Go deep before you jump. Your speed when you leave the water decides how long you stay in the air. A long dive followed by a steep climb gives you time for a double flip.
• Stop rotating early. Let go of the flip key when the dolphin is about to point the way it is falling. One full turn or two full turns lands cleanly; a half turn is a belly flop.
• Ride the swell. Swimming fast just under the surface gives you a push from the waves and keeps your air topped up at the same time.
