Block Puzzle is the falling-block puzzle format inspired by Tetris but adapted for mobile-first play. Drop blocks onto a fixed grid; clear lines or rows by filling them; survive as long as possible. Modern Block Puzzle games (1010!, Wood Block Puzzle, Block Blast) have hundreds of millions of mobile downloads, with simple controls and infinite gameplay loops.

How to play

  • A grid (usually 10×10 or similar) starts empty.
  • You’re given 3 random block shapes to place.
  • Drag blocks onto the grid (must fit without overlapping existing blocks).
  • When all 3 are placed, you get 3 new shapes.
  • Fill a complete row or column = that line clears for points.
  • Game ends when you can’t fit any remaining block.

Beginner strategy

  • Plan all 3 placements together. Each set of 3 should set up line clears.
  • Keep grid flat. Tall sections trap small blocks later.
  • Clear lines aggressively. Each clear = points + cleared space.
  • Don’t waste corners. Corners are hardest to fill — plan around them.
  • Save flexible shapes. Small blocks (1-cell) for hard spots; large blocks for clean areas.

Intermediate strategy

  • Set up combos. A row clearing while filling another row = bonus.
  • Reserve “drop zones”. Specific spots designed for hard-to-fit shapes.
  • Read the upcoming queue. Plan 2-3 sets ahead.
  • L-shapes and T-shapes. Plan for these awkward blocks.
  • Don’t fill corners blindly. Match shapes to space.

Block Puzzle vs Tetris

Unlike Tetris, Block Puzzle doesn’t have gravity-dropping blocks. You place pieces wherever you want on the grid. Strategy is purely spatial planning, not reflexes. This makes Block Puzzle ideal for casual play — no time pressure, no reflexes required.

Common mistakes

  • Placing blocks anywhere they fit. Plan for line clears.
  • Building tall towers. Creates trapped spaces.
  • Ignoring upcoming shapes. 3-piece queue gives planning info.
  • Forgetting corners. Hardest to fill later.
