Big Two is the climbing card game where the 2 is the boss card and poker hands decide who sheds fastest. It also goes by Big Deuce, Pusoy Dos and Choh Dai Di. Play the Big 2 card game online free in your browser against three computer players, with no download or sign-up, on desktop or on your phone.

How to play

Four players get 13 cards each from a standard 52-card deck. Cards rank from 2 (highest) down through Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 to 3 (lowest). When two cards share a rank, the suit decides: diamonds are lowest, then clubs, then hearts, with spades highest. So the 3 of diamonds is the lowest card in the deck and the 2 of spades is the highest.

  • The start: the player holding the 3 of diamonds starts each hand, and their first play must include it, either alone or as part of a combination.
  • Combinations: you can play a single card, a pair, a triple or a five-card poker hand.
  • Beating a play: each player in turn must beat the last play with a higher combination of the same number of cards, or pass. A pair can only beat a pair, and a five-card hand can only beat a five-card hand. Cards you can use glow green.
  • Passing: you may pass even when you could play, and passing doesn’t lock you out. If the play comes back around, you can still beat it.
  • Clearing the pile: when the other three players pass in a row, the pile clears and the last player to play leads any combination they like.
  • Winning the hand: the first player to play their last card wins the hand at once.

Ranking the combinations

Singles and pairs compare by rank first, then by the highest suit, so a pair of 9s containing the 9 of spades beats a pair containing the 9 of hearts. Triples compare by rank. Five-card hands rank from low to high:

  • Straight: five cards in sequence of mixed suits. The 2 counts low in a straight, so 5-4-3-2-A is the lowest and A-K-Q-J-10 the highest. Straights don’t wrap, so J-Q-K-A-2 isn’t one.
  • Flush: five cards of one suit. A higher suit always wins, then the higher top card.
  • Full house: three of a kind plus a pair, ranked by the three.
  • Four of a kind: all four cards of a rank plus any fifth card. Four cards on their own aren’t a legal play.
  • Straight flush: a straight in one suit, the strongest play in the game.

Any higher type beats any lower type, so even the lowest flush beats the highest straight.

Scoring

When someone goes out, everyone else takes penalty points for the cards left in their hand: 1 point per card with 9 or fewer, 2 points per card with 10, 11 or 12, and 3 points per card with all 13 (39 points). The winner of the hand scores nothing. You choose whether the match ends when a player reaches 25, 50 or 100 points, and the lowest total wins. The rules and scoring follow the standard description on pagat.com.

Options

  • Suit order: the default is the common Big Two order (diamonds, clubs, hearts, spades). The Pusoy Dos order (clubs, spades, hearts, diamonds) makes diamonds the top suit, and the 3 of clubs starts.
  • Sort: rank order or suit order, which makes flushes easy to spot.

Your matches won, hands won and best match total are saved in your browser, along with your options.

Strategy tips

  • Get rid of low cards in groups. A low straight or full house sheds five cards in one go, including lonely cards that would be hard to unload as singles.
  • Hold on to your 2s. A 2 wins most single and pair rounds, which gives you the lead. Save it for when the lead matters, not to beat a 6.
  • Watch the card counts. The counters on each player turn yellow at 2 cards or fewer. When an opponent has one card left, don’t lead a single unless it’s your highest.

FAQ

Is this Big Two game free?

Yes. It’s free to play with no account and no install. Pick your options and press Deal the cards, or Play again when a match ends.

Is Big Two the same as Pusoy Dos?

They’re closely related. Pusoy Dos is the Filipino name, and its usual suit order is different, with diamonds highest and the 3 of clubs starting. You can switch to that order on the start screen.

What is the highest card in Big Two?

The 2 of spades, in the standard suit order. In the Pusoy Dos order it’s the 2 of diamonds.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Tap glowing cards to select them, then tap Play, or tap Pass. Hint picks a legal play for you. On a keyboard, the arrow keys cycle through legal plays, Enter plays, X passes and C clears your selection.
