This free online whiteboard gives you an infinite canvas in your browser tab. Sketch with a pen, mark things up with a highlighter, add shapes, arrows, text boxes and sticky notes, and move around by panning and zooming. It also works as a simple drawing pad on a phone or tablet. There is no sign-up, and your boards save automatically in this browser.
What the whiteboard can do
- Pen with smoothing: the pen smooths shaky lines and gets thinner when you move fast. A stylus that reports pressure sets the width instead.
- Highlighter: a wide, see-through marker in six colors.
- Stroke eraser: drag the eraser across anything and the whole stroke or shape it touches is removed. Undo brings it back.
- Shapes: lines, arrows, rectangles and ellipses. With Snap on, shapes start and end on the grid and lines that are close to a 45 degree angle straighten out. Hold Shift for 15 degree steps, perfect squares and perfect circles.
- Text boxes and sticky notes: click to type anywhere, or drop a note in yellow, pink, blue, green, orange or lilac.
- Select, move and resize: click an item or drag a box around several, then move them, resize from a corner handle or delete them.
- Undo and redo: up to 200 steps on each board.
- Backgrounds: grid, dots or plain white.
- Several boards: create, rename, duplicate, clear and delete boards.
- PNG export: download exactly what you see, or the whole board cropped around everything you drew, at 2x resolution.
How to use it
The pen is ready as soon as the page loads, so you can start drawing straight away. Pick another tool from the toolbar or press its letter key (hover a button to see it). Colors and three sizes sit under the toolbar.
To move around, use the hand tool, hold the Space bar and drag, scroll with the mouse wheel or trackpad, or drag with two fingers on a touch screen. To zoom, pinch, hold Ctrl (or Cmd) while you scroll, or use the minus, plus and Fit buttons in the corner. Fit shows everything on the board.
To edit text later, switch to Select and double-click or double-tap the text box or note. Press Escape or click elsewhere when you are done. An empty text box is removed when you finish.
Saving and downloading
Every change is saved straight away in your browser’s local storage as vector data. Use the Boards panel to switch, add or rename boards. Deleting a board asks you to tap twice so you do not lose one by accident.
Press PNG to download an image. Visible area saves what is on screen right now. Whole board crops neatly around all of your content with a small margin. You can choose whether the grid or dots appear in the image.
This whiteboard is local only. Nothing is uploaded, there are no accounts, and other people cannot join your board or see it live. If you clear your browser data, your boards go with it, so download a PNG of anything you want to keep.
Tips
- Turn Snap off when you want shapes in free positions, and turn it back on for tidy diagrams and flowcharts.
- Zoom in before adding small labels.
- Select something and press Ctrl+D to duplicate it, or use the arrow keys to nudge it into place.
- Want a game instead of a tool? The Drawing Game has a sketch pad plus a Draw & Guess party mode, and Pixel Art is great for blocky pictures.
FAQ
Is this online whiteboard free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, with no account, no download and no limit on the number of boards other than your browser’s storage space.
Can I share a board or work on it with other people?
No. This is a single-person, local whiteboard. There is no live collaboration or share link. To show your work to someone, download a PNG and send the image.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Draw with one finger or a stylus, and use two fingers to pan and pinch zoom. Touching the board does not scroll the page.
How is it different from the Drawing Game?
The Drawing Game is a fixed-size sketch pad with games such as Draw & Guess. This whiteboard is a tool: an infinite canvas with shapes, text, sticky notes, selection and multiple saved boards.
Where are my boards saved?
In this browser on this device. Another browser or a private window will not see them.
