Castle Game is a castle siege game in two halves. In Defend, you get a small budget to fortify a hilltop around your royal crown, then an enemy catapult on the far side of the valley hurls a volley of boulders at it. In Attack, you swap sides, take the catapult yourself and try to topple the enemy crown. You can play this castle game online free in your browser with no download, on a keyboard, a mouse or a phone’s touch screen.
How to play Defend
Each of the 10 Defend levels starts with your crown on the hill and a gold zone marking where you can build. Pick a block and tap or click a column inside the zone to stack it on top. Blocks always rest on the ground or on the block below, and every column has a height limit.
- Wood costs 1 coin and absorbs 2 damage. Cheap, but it breaks fast.
- Stone costs 2 coins and absorbs 4 damage.
- Wall costs 3 coins and absorbs 7 damage, the most of any block in a single space.
- Roof costs 2 coins and caps a column. Hit from the side it absorbs 3 damage, but a boulder falling steeply onto it only takes 1 point off, so a roof can stop several high lobs. Nothing can be stacked on a roof.
When the fort is ready, press Start siege. The catapult fires its boulders one at a time along real arcs: some come in low and flat, others are lobbed high and drop almost straight down. Small, medium and large boulders deal 2, 4 and 7 damage. A boulder that breaks a block keeps going with whatever damage it has left, so a big one can smash straight through a thin wall. When a block breaks, everything above it drops down one row, which can open a gap at the top of a wall. If the crown is still standing after the last boulder, you win.
The volley for each level is scripted, so it is the same every time you play it. If the crown falls, press Rebuild: your last fort is kept, so you can patch the weak spot instead of starting over.
How to play Attack
The six Attack levels reverse the siege. An enemy castle stands on the right with a crown and a red flag on top, and you have a few boulders to bring it down. Set the angle and power with the buttons or arrow keys, or drag on the field to aim, then press Fire or Space. A short dotted line shows the first part of the flight. You win by hitting the crown directly or by knocking out the blocks under it so it drops two rows or more.
Stars and progress
Every level has three stars. In Defend, winning earns at least one star, and spending fewer coins earns two or three. In Attack, the fewer boulders you need, the more stars you get. Beating a level unlocks the next one, and your stars are saved in your browser.
Tips
- Watch the first volley. Losing costs nothing, and seeing where each boulder lands shows you what to cover.
- Mix side armor and a roof. Flat shots hit the column just left of the crown, while lobs come down on top of it. Most levels need both.
- Use walls where space is short. A column can only be so tall, so put walls where a single space has to stop a big boulder.
- Mind the collapse. If the bottom block of a column breaks, the whole stack slides down. A spare block on top keeps the crown’s side covered after a hit.
- In Attack, go for the base. A crown perched on a tower is easier to topple by smashing the blocks underneath than by hitting it directly.
FAQ
Is Castle Game free?
Yes. It is free to play with no account and nothing to install.
Does it work on phones and Chromebooks?
Yes. On a phone or tablet, tap a column to build and drag on the field to aim the catapult. The game area won’t scroll the page while you play. On a laptop or Chromebook, use the mouse or keyboard.
Is every level winnable?
Yes. Every Defend level can be won within its budget, and every Attack level can be won with the boulders you are given. Getting three stars takes a tighter, cheaper build or more accurate shots.
Can I pause the game?
Press P or Esc during a siege or a shot. It also pauses if you switch tabs. Building is never timed.
