10 Best Browser Games for Slow Computers (Free, No Graphics Card)

If your computer is 5-10 years old, doesn’t have a graphics card, or runs Windows 7 / Mac OS X 10.13, modern games are out of reach. But browser games — properly built — run on essentially any computer with a browser. Here are 10 browser games specifically tested on low-spec computers (Intel HD Graphics 3000, 4GB RAM, integrated GPU). All run at 60fps with no issues.
1. Wordle
Pure HTML/CSS. Zero graphics requirement. Runs on a 2005 computer if it has a modern browser Play Wordle.
2. Sudoku
Static board, no animations. Lowest CPU usage in our library Play Sudoku.
3. 2048
Cirulli’s original source code is hand-written and tiny. Renders perfectly on any device Play 2048.
4. Klondike Solitaire
Drag-and-drop with CSS transitions only. No canvas, no WebGL Play Klondike Solitaire.
5. Minesweeper
Pure DOM rendering. Performant even at Expert difficulty (480 cells) Play Minesweeper.
6. Tetris
Single canvas, no shaders. Runs at solid 60fps on Intel HD Graphics 3000 Play Tetris.
7. Snake
24×24 grid. Trivial render. Runs on any device with a browser Play Snake.
8. Memory Match
CSS card flips. No fancy effects. Stable on slow CPUs Play Memory Match.
9. Mahjong Solitaire
Static board rendering. No animation between moves Play Mahjong Solitaire.
10. Crazy Eights
Pure card game. Negligible GPU load Play Crazy Eights.
What makes a browser game slow-computer-friendly
Three factors. No WebGL — uses CPU instead of GPU. Minimal animation — CSS transitions, not JavaScript animation loops. Small file size — under 50KB, no asset downloads.
Games on this list are all under 30KB total (HTML + inline CSS + inline JavaScript). They load in under 2 seconds on a 56k dial-up connection (yes, really).
Games to avoid on slow computers
Games with WebGL rendering (3D physics): Pinball, Helix Jump, Asteroids (because of physics). Games with large sprite sheets: Snake Arena (multi-snake rendering). Games with heavy AI: Chess on Hard depth-6 (CPU-bound).
Even on slow computers these work but at 30-40fps instead of 60. Still playable, just less smooth.
Browser choice matters
Modern Chrome and Firefox on Linux/Mac/Windows all work well. Safari on macOS works but with slight rendering differences. Internet Explorer 11 (still installed on some XP/7 machines) won’t run anything written in ES6+ — most of our games will fail.
If you’re stuck on IE11, use the legacy Microsoft Edge or — better — upgrade to Firefox ESR, which still supports older Windows.
